• In partnership with the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, Suffolk Public Schools Food and Nutritional Services host a Healthy Schools Market to serve our school community. Suffolk Public Schools can provide fresh produce and food to parents and children throughout our division through this partnership. Introducing families to fresh produce helps improve the quality of meals, allowing them to try new foods and recipes. During the Coronavirus pandemic, the SPS Food and Nutrition Services department launched the Healthy Food Market (Nourishing Our Neighbors) in 2020 to combat economic hardships. Student volunteers, teachers, and other employees from our Suffolk Public Schools system help hand out fresh produce and pre-packaged meals to folks who, in some cases, are still facing challenges putting food on the table. Events are held at Colonel Fred Cherry Middle School and Booker T. Washington Elementary.

Angela Howell, Supervisor of Nutritional Services, received the  2021 WTKR People Taking Action Humanitarian Award for her commitment to serving our Suffolk community.
