Suffolk Public Schools Receives "Best Communities for Music Education" for the Third Straight Year

Suffolk Public Schools has been recognized by The NAMM Foundation with the prestigious Best Communities for Music Education designation for our exceptional commitment to music education and student access to the arts for the third straight year.

Now in its 26th year, the award honors districts across the U.S. that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing quality music programs to all students. Suffolk earned this distinction through a rigorous evaluation of its music program’s funding, participation, instruction, facilities, and community support.

Dr. Joleen Neighbours, Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts, emphasizes that in Suffolk, music education is a promise to every child—one that nurtures confidence, creativity, and connection. Teachers Sarah Haigh and Jamie Hockady echoed this sentiment, highlighting how music fosters lifelong skills and emotional resilience.

We proudly uphold the belief that music is not a privilege, but a right, and continue to lead the way in building a vibrant, inclusive arts community.
