The College and Career Academy at Pruden (CCAP) offers Special Programs to high school students enrolled in specific CCAP Courses.
The FIRST Academy: School of Technology's at CCAP is an instructional program that will provide students with relevant and rigorous high school experience, connecting core academic instruction with workplace applications. The program focuses on the integration of STEM concepts and engineering, embodied in industrial technology career fields. Students who are interested in enrolling in technology courses at CCAP are encouraged to participate in the program.
The First Academy's model offers selected students exciting program-specific opportunities to earn dual-credit, enjoy contextual exposure to academic concepts through industry-specific, project-based learning, industry credentialing, internal/external work-based learning experiences, career planning and development, all of which garner students an array of opportunities that are STEM focused.
The Goals of the FIRST Academy: School of Technology:

Increase opportunities for students to receive rigorous academic instruction contextually as a component of career and technical education program offerings.

Increase emphasis on STEM career pathways.

Develop individualized high school plans to ensure course selections that are aligned with student post-secondary education and career aspirations.

Ensure that graduates complete a college and work-readiness curriculum, minimally at the level of the Standard-Technical Diploma-Course of Study.

Incorporate and access Virginia's Workplace Readiness Skills.

Support student attainment of related industry credentials.

Support student attainment of dual-credit for CTE and academic coursework.
Hampton Roads Public Works Academy (HRPWA) is a nonprofit regional coalition promoting cooperative training in the various disciplines comprising Public Works and Utilities in Southeastern Virginia. The Hampton Roads Public Works Academy's mission is to promote cooperative public works and utilities workforce development for Hampton Roads high school students and professionals. CCAP students enrolled in the trades are encouraged to participate. Monthly sessions relating to all areas of Public Works, Public Utilities, and HRSD. Students are afforded the opportunity to participate in summer internships that can lead to full-time jobs within those industries, post-high school.
The Program Has Three Objectives:

To coordinate lower-cost training for current Public Works and Utilities employees

To educate area high school students with the goal of participants becoming future pre-trained Public Works and Utilities employees
