On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Governor Glenn Youngkin commended approval of a Lab School, brought forth by Old Dominion University, at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Suffolk. This partnership centers on a comprehensive integration of STEM education that will be incorporated into hands-on STEM experiences in the elementary curriculum.

During the School Board meeting on Thursday, March 27, 2025, the Suffolk City School Board passed Superintendent Dr. John Gordon III's $244.5 million budget for fiscal year 2025-2026. The proposed budget was presented at the school board meeting on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the amount of $244,554,074, which includes $82,332,201 of city funding. At the joint meeting of the Suffolk City School Board and City Hall, the city decreased the $8.3 million dollar request by $1.2 million, and agreed to absorb the cost of any new and pre-existing School Resource Officers.

Lakeland High School, King's Fork High School and Nansemond River High School have announced their graduation ceremony schedules for the upcoming commencement day on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Doors will open one hour before each ceremony begins, offering attendees ample time to find seating and enjoy the festivities. Graduates, families, and friends are encouraged to arrive early to ensure a smooth experience.
