Fine & Performing Arts Department Staff:
Dr. Joleen Neighbours, Coordinator of Fine & Performing Arts
The Fine and Performing Arts Department continually evolves in creating environments that allow for experiential learning and exploration with instruction that is meaningful and artistic and allows students to communicate their understanding. With whole-child education, visual arts, music, theatre, and dance give students a greater level of understanding of the world and foster all 21st Century Learning skills. FPA prepares creative students for career readiness, regardless of the chosen path, or post-secondary education.
To facilitate this goal, the Fine and Performing Arts Department will:
- Apply real world situations and lessons in which arts and cultural education meet
- Create formative assessments naturally suited to teaching and learning in the arts, maintaining the alignment of the creative process, fostering each student’s artistic voice
- Design, model, and provide performance and skills based opportunities to foster the stages of readiness in creative careers
- Encourage arts educators to be active learners and continue excelling in their disciplines
- Ensure that a love of the arts and learning of the arts should be accessible to all students, regardless of ability
- Value the uniqueness and unique contributions of diverse students, bringing their own experiences to the class, as they become artists and contributors to the greater cultural community
