During the lunch shifts, there was a college and career fair of course open to all grade levels. This event is a kickoff to the junior class to get them "pepped" and "prepped" for their upcoming senior year! The speakers this year were Ashley Teal (C/O 2012), Zachary Johnson (C/O 2012) and Amaya Allen (C/O 2022).  Many thanks to all of the colleges and universities represented as well as the Suffolk Fire Dept. and Newport News Shipbuilding.

  • Friday February 2nd Mme Havlin's KFHS French students celebrated French groundhog day with the traditional meal of round, golden crêpes or thin pancakes with various toppings.  The French, like Americans, use this day to reflect on the passing of winter and look forward to upcoming spring warm weather and sun.  For good luck and prosperity they flip a crêpe, catching it.

  • HBCU Band Recruitment Event

  • The IB CAS/TOK courses collaborated with Mr Riddick's agriculture class to talk about respectful disagreement and healthy change.  Mr. Riddick was a guest speaker who addressed the group about facing adversity and succeeding in bringing systemic change to an organization.  The students worked in small, mixed groups, using a graphic organizer (about vision, strengths/allies, opportunities/dreams and obstacles to overcome) to have both structured (protocols) and unstructured conversation about succeeding in achieving their goal of a more perfect school.  They made connections with club leaders and others with similar visions, and took risks expressing their opinions in an unfamiliar group.
Many thanks to Mr. Riddick for his example and his wisdom.

  • The Holiday Door Decorating Contest was a fun diversion the week before winter break.  The students were showing off their creativity!

They then brainstormed what they could create for their project piece and went to work with their choice of materials.

Each member of the group had a different task: some kept track of character details, some managed the timeline, and some identified red herrings in the clues. They then had to bring their information together and discuss to solve the mystery.
