Summary: The Samuel “Sam” Allen scholarship is designed to enhance educational and athletic excellence. The scholarship is named after Mr. Allen, who grew up in Norfolk and played in the Negro Leagues between 1955-1960. Mr. Allen was drafted in 1960 and served his Nation in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne. He has strongly advocated for inner-city youth baseball ever since and still resides in Norfolk. The scholarship is being offered through a partnership of Peter’s Wish, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit, and D-BAT Virginia Beach, a baseball and softball training academy.

Summary: PACMOAA will award two $1500 scholarships to High Schools seniors who are entering college
and will be participating in ROTC. Enrollment in a college ROTC program during the freshman

Scholarship awardees will be notified no later than 6 June 2024. Winners will be invited to PACMOAA dinner on 13June 2024 for award presentation.

Summary: This scholarship only applies to the 60-hour Pre-License Principles of Real Estate Class and required textbooks through Alpha College of Real Estate. Alpha College of Real Estate is an educational provider only. The recipient of this award is fully responsible for all other requirements of the Real Estate Board for licensure. This is not a reimbursement, nor will the recipient receive a personal check. The Hampton Roads REALTORS® Foundation will transfer the award directly to Alpha College of Real Estate. Please refer to the Virginia Real Estate Board regulations for a complete list of Real Estate Licensing requirements. Additional fees not included in this scholarship will apply for Real Estate Board required items; including but not limited to, fees for the Real Estate Board Licensing Exam, fingerprints, background check, and submission of the Real Estate Board application.

Summary: In Norfolk, Ms. Young was very active in “The Friends of the Norfolk Library,” where she began working as an
Ambassador. She loved traveling to different areas and providing educational information about the library. Ms. Young joined the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Norfolk Section. Her influence in education continued through NCNW. She donated generous amounts to educational scholarships in memory of her mother.As a result of the donations, the section developed an initiative called Dollars 4 Scholars. The initiative came under our youth component. Scholarship funds were earmarked for cultural events, workshops, books, and summits to encourage our youth to be active in education.
Ms. Lois Youngs’ life work ended in Norfolk right before her 91st birthday. NCNW, Norfolk Section named a
scholarship in her honor to continue her great contributions. -

Jan’s educational studies include Thomas Nelson Community College, Norfolk State University, and numerous leadership development programs. Mrs. House is a member of Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church, Charter President for the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Norfolk Section, and Co-Founder of Seniors Aging Gracefully, a 501c3 organization for the aging population ages 55 and better.
The organization advocates, educates, empowers, and offers resources and services to help improve the quality of life for seniors. Jan House has a lifelong passion and dedication to community service. She remains active in various local and national organizations. Her love for the youth and commitment to the community are a few of the reasons Norfolk Section’s first educational scholarship was named in her honor.
