What is the process for becoming a Substitute Teacher or Substitute Teacher Assistant?
Substitute teachers are required to have 30 or more college credit hours to be eligible to substitute teach for Suffolk Public Schools. They will also need to upload transcripts from the college they have attended as well as three completed reference surveys attached to their online application. Substitute teacher assistants are not required to have college credit hours, although they will need to have three references to complete the reference survey as well and to complete the full online application.

How will I be notified if I’m selected after being interviewed?
If you are selected after being interviewed, you will be contacted by a Human Resources representative to complete the onboarding process. Those who were interviewed but not selected will receive an email.

Once hired what documents will I need to bring to my onboarding appointment?
Driver's License or Identification Card
Social Security Card
Birth Certificate
Tuberculosis Skin Test with Negative Result
Voided Check or Authorization for Direct deposit from your bank
